Come and Join  the Fort Lauderdale ACM SIGGRAPH as Richard Christian presents an After Effects 2d Character Rigging and Animation Essentials Workshop on  Tuesday April 14th, 2015  at 7:00 p.m.  About the  Presentation:

In this workshop you will learn how to bring vector and 2D characters like this little Yeti dude to life for your personal and professional projects in my 2D Character Rigging & Animation Essentials workshop with Fort Lauderdale SIGGRAPH Chapter. We’ll cover character setup with null object parenting for fk, ik with puppet tools and the free Duik plugin, setting up lip synch and facial controls with expressions and pre-comps and other neat tricks.

What will I need for this workshop ?

•  A laptop with Affect Effects
• Example file and plugins will be made available

Meet the Artist:

Richard Christian is an Independent Multimedia Generalist Artist of several disciplines including After Effects motion graphics and animation, Digital compositing, 3D modeling and animation, game design, stop motion animation, 2D design, traditional art, and digital photography, video and photo editing.  He works in South Florida teaching seasonal animation courses at Coral Springs Museum of Art and creating a variety of commercial 2D and 3D motion graphic content. He has worked on projects for national brands such as The Sales Huddle Group, National Gift Card, and Gables Residential and recently started designing for augmented reality app Aurasma animating yearbook covers for Yearbook 3D and compositing proposal renderings for Taptl transparent touchscreen displays. In addition, he also serves the South Florida digital community as Director of Social Media for the Fort Lauderdale ACM SIGGRAPH chapter.  His favorite subjects are science and biological animation along with character animation.

• Florida Atlantic University’s School of Communication & Multimedia Studies will host the event in their Davie campus Media Lab ( Liberal Arts Bldg. Rm 415-B). Parking for non-FAU attendees requires a Temporary Parking Pass which we will hand out at the entrance of College Avenue.

About the Workshop:

This is a projection mapping and compositing workshop. Projection mapping, or video mapping is a technique that consists of projecting imagery onto buildings, structures, and other 3d surfaces. Compositing is the manipulation and combination of at least two source images. Projection mapping uses combined source images such as drawings, video, and rendered animation and projects them into real 3d space. This technique can be used in various media displays in advertising, film/theater, or other visual presentations. Mark will provide a simple work flow to implement projection mapping using a laptop and a projector. This work flow will cover the preparation, setup, masking, animation, and the final projection outputted to be mapped in real space. The software tools used are Photoshop, After Effects, Modul8, and Madmapper.

About the Speaker:

Mark completed his BFA and MFA degrees at Florida Atlantic University with a major in Computer Art and Animation. He has over 10 years experience as a professional including teaching at the university level.

He currently is an Assistant professor at Lynn University teaching in the multimedia design program. Previously, he was employed at American Intercontinental University teaching courses in game design and Florida Atlantic University teaching courses in Digital Compositing, 3d modeling, and Animation.
