Come and Join Animation Director Jeff Schu , at the Fort Lauderdale ACM SIGGRAPH May 15th ,2013 at 7:00 p.m.
//This Event will be hosted by Digital Media Arts College in their Green Screen Studio. //
Jeff Schu has enjoyed an exciting and illustrious career in animation as a Character Animator, Lead Animator, Supervising Animator, Animation Supervisor and now Animation Director.
He made his beginning debut on the production team of the first photorealistic animated feature film, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, at Square Pictures’s Honolulu Hawaii Studio. Square Pictures rendered the film using some of the most advanced processing capabilities available for film animating at the time, but for Jeff that was just the beginning.
After working on Final Flight of the Osiris for the Matrix franchise, he left the sandy beaches of Hawaii for sunny Los Angeles to work on his next project, the film adaptation of the acclaimed children’s book, The Polar Express, thus launching an 8 year run with Sony Pictures Imageworks.
At Imageworks he worked on such titles as Disney’s Academy Award Nominated film The Chronicles of Narnia (The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe) and Sony Animations’s own nominated Surf’s Up along with Columbia/Imagemovers Best Animated Feature Nominee, Monster House. Moving on and utilizing his strong grasp of the technical side of animation, Jeff and his teams made indellibile contributions to VFX films like, I Am Legend, Speed Racer, Eagle Eye, and Beowulf.
When Imageworks embarked on opening a new studio in Albuquerque, NM, Jeff took on the challenge and built a highly successful team of animators that brought characters to life in Hoyt Yeatman’s G Force, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern.
In 2011 Imageworks moved their animation operation to Vancouver, Canada and Jeff soon found a great opportunity in Digital Domain’s ambitious venture, a studio to be called Traditions located in Port St. Lucie, FL. The team at Traditions was embarking on the production of a sure to be South Florida animation classic, The Legend of Tembo to be directed by the very talented team of Aaron Blaise and Chuck Williams. However, the studio fell into bankruptcy and shuttered in September 2012.
Jeff then went to work in New Orleans, LA with VFX legend Richard Edlund at Dumonde VFX for the on set previs team for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes which is scheduled for release in 2014. He is currently working at a studio in Ft. Lauderdale on some Exciting New Projects.
