Preparing For Careers In Feature Film Production/ Digital Effects with
Todd Shifflett.

Join Todd Shifflett of Rhythm & Hues Studios for an informative seminar on how students should prepare for careers in feature film production. Todd Shifflett is a 1992 graduate of New York University with a major in film and television and a minor in computer science. He joined Rhythm & Hues in Los Angeles in 1993 starting as an FX artist and shortly thereafter taking on responsibilities of digital production.
Most recently, he has managed and supervised large-scale productions for feature films and commercials in the capacity of both visual and digital effect supervisor. Among his film credits, Todd served as Digital Effects Supervisor for Scooby Doo, Scooby Doo Two, and The Sixth Day.

 

October 19th 7:00 P.M.:

SIGGRAPH AND IGDA proudly present Alex Friderici
7:00 p.m. at FAU's Center for Electronic Communications:

  I am very proud to announce that our resident animator ALEX FRIDERICI finally agreed to come to present at the CEC and we will hold the meeting next Tuesday October 19th at 7 PM at the CEC Studios, 220 S.E. 2nd Ave, 9th Floor of the FAU Askew Tower.
We are asking for a $5 donation at the door, since we do not have any budget from the SIGGRAPH organization, we usually ask for this small donation to support our speakers.
Alex works independently for CafeFX (www.cafefx.com), MTV Latino and Nickolodeon and his credits include Spy Kids 3D, the Terminal and Sky Captain.He will present some of the techniques he used on Sky Captain.
If you have a chance go see the movie beforehand so you are familiar with the scenes.

Alex has won the Promax Platinum award, his piece Perestroika was shown at SIGRRAPH 2001, he is an AIFL alumni and resides in Hollywood. Surf to http://www.eyelandarts.com/ for some more background info.

After the presentation we will have a Q&A session and raffle off some more goodies! (Some great SIGGRAPH and gaming stuff)

Hi Everyone,

hope you had a great time at SIGGRAPH, we will have a meeting at the CEC on September 22nd at 7:00 pm,
showcasing this year's Electronic Theater (Which btw was great).
220 S.E. 2nd Street, Downtown Fort Lauderdale.

We will also raffle off all kinds of goodies (T-Shirts and a bunch of Pixar posters, etc.)

SIGGRAPH AND IGDA proudly present LAURENCE GARTEL 7:00 p.m. at FAU's Center for Electronic Communications:

 

One of the most celebrated early pioneers of digital art LAURENCE GARTEL will grace the Ft. Lauderdale Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH for the first time in many years. GARTEL is known throughout most of the world as the "FATHER" of the digital photographic medium. GARTEL will give a dynamic lecture and showcase many of his early digital images and screen some of his brand new "DIGITAL MUSIC MOVIE" projects which are making the "buzz," even before their release on the Universal Entertainment Record Label.

GARTEL's work is a fusion of digital photography, 3D object scanning,
graffiti, and traditional painting. His work over three decades is like a journey through the entire digital art medium along with his personal iconography.

However, this month is the 10th Anniversary of the Ft. Lauderdale
SIGGRAPH Chapter! We want to celebrate this achievement and we will
offer the following Meeting Agenda:

At 7 PM, we will start a retrospective of the last 5 years of Electronic
Theater ( ET ), selecting many excellent examples of computer animation shown at this prestigious conference. Many of you have asked me to do this in the past. BTW, the deadline to mail your entries is February 28th if you are interested in getting into the ET for SIGGRAPH2004. They also accept real-time content for this event, but you will need to make a movie of it.

Short Break for announcements, and new Rapid-Raffle Session. Raffle off Maya t-shirts, some Maya books, and something unusual....

At 8:15 PM , Marc Mencher and Tom Buscaglia talk about recruiting for
the game industry and the Game Developer's Conference which is coming up in March.

For those of you can afford it, I highly reccommend attending GDC and
SIGGRAPH2004. You will meet interesting people in the industries,
