Speaker Biography:

For the past 11 years Caleb "Cro" Owens has worked professionally and extensively in every aspect of computer graphics, including commercials, forensics, education, interactive, feature films and large format film.

Owens' skills have been exploited at studios such as Digital Domain, Dream Quest Images, Square USA, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Rainmaker Interactive, Windmill Lane and others.

Owens' was Lead Technical Director on the Experience Music Project. At Digital Domain, Owens led a team of artists in creating a 3D computer-generated facial replacement of James Brown. Utilizing the latest technology, such as Maya and Sub-division surfaces, as well as new techniques in artistic and design approaches, his efforts helped set a new standard for photo-real facial animation and the creative application of 3D computer graphics.

Most recently, Cro has again been part of a revolutionary jump in CG. Working with NVIDIA Caleb designed, constructed and animated a fully 3D character for the groundbreaking launch of NVIDIA's new GForce3 product.

Expanding on his work with James Brown, Owens again set a new standard--this time in the realm of real-time animation.

"I have personally screened hundreds of artists. It is rare to find an artist capable of modeling, texturing, lighting and animating and much more so to find anyone as proficient as he is one of the most talented artists I have worked with in my time at SGI or NVIDIA."
